Envy – Getting Rid of It

Where does envy come from, and what fuels it? Envy does not arise out of nowhere; it is catalysed by attempts to compare ourselves with others. Often, these comparisons are not in our favour, and this can cause not only sadness, anger and resentment, but also underlying anxiety — a fear that can grow subconsciously into a deep worry about not achieving what you want, or not becoming like the next glossy model.

All these deep anxieties are fuelled by the same destructive thinking that automatically focuses on what we lack in others. Therefore, when you notice the first signs of envy in yourself, you need to try to transform destructive thinking into constructive thinking as quickly as possible. How? It is quite simple, although at first you will need to do it consciously — catching those subtle notes of envy and immediately turning them into chords of gratitude for the valuable things you already have. In this way, we draw energy to achieve our goals not from endless despair, but from a position of strength and confident positivity.

Another important element in this transformation is moving from excessive reflection to concrete action. These steps should be directed not at attempts to imitate the idols imposed on us, but towards our own personal benchmarks. It is important to focus on our own motivations and interests. Everyone has their own unique ones, and by acknowledging them, we discover not only our individual goals, but also the trajectory towards achieving them.

The environment in which you socialise is also crucial. Take a closer look at your surroundings and consider whether they provoke envy in you or, on the contrary, inspire you and boost your confidence. Draw conclusions and try to gradually eliminate the former, surrounding yourself with the latter whenever possible. Your social circle should not wear you down or drain your energy, but rather charge you with optimism, encouraging and inspiring you to new achievements. By surrounding yourself with like-minded people, you not only give your nervous system an invaluable gift, but also save a huge amount of energy — energy that is so necessary for future accomplishments and new successes.
