Curry

🌿 The benefits of curry: a yellow-brown, slightly tangy spice with tremendous health benefits 🌿

Curry is truly one of nature’s timeless gifts! Incidentally, it predates all three major world religions, as this deeply vintage superfood is over 4,000 years old. This is further proof of its enduring popularity and, consequently, the enduring relevance of this spicy, miraculous concoction.

Many of us are familiar with curry first-hand and can easily recognise this spice by its bright flavour and rich aroma. It is not just an ordinary spice, but a complete seasoning consisting of spices ground into a powder, namely: turmeric, coriander, fenugreek and red chilli. These four ingredients form the core, unchanging base of curry. In addition to these main spices, ginger and certain other ingredients are sometimes added to the mix. What’s more, this popular Indian seasoning is not just a tasty, exotic addition to dishes, but a veritable treasure trove of valuable nutrients.

Here are 5 reasons to add curry to your diet:

🍛 1. Anti-inflammatory properties

The main component of curry is turmeric. It contains the natural antioxidant curcumin, which helps the body fight various inflammations, protects our cells and helps significantly slow down the ageing process.

🧠 2. Brain support

Curcumin also improves blood circulation and can have a positive effect on memory and, consequently, on cognitive function. Some researchers even claim that regular consumption of curry is an effective way of preventing Alzheimer’s disease.

❤️ 3. Heart health benefits

Curry lowers levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol and improves blood circulation, which in turn strengthens the heart and significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

🌱 4. Aids digestion

Turmeric and ginger are among the stomach’s best friends, as turmeric boosts metabolism and, alongside its anti-inflammatory properties, successfully inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria, whilst ginger actively stimulates gastric motility and has a positive effect on gut flora, thereby reducing gas formation, and food is digested much faster and more efficiently.

⚖️ 5. Weight and blood sugar control

Some ingredients in curry help regulate blood sugar levels and significantly boost metabolism, which is particularly beneficial for weight management and diabetes prevention.

💡Interesting fact:

Did you know which type of chilli is used in the world’s hottest curry spice blend? It’s the Bhut Jolokia chilli, and it’s so hot that it’s even used in the production of tear gas! On the Scoville scale, this chilli measures just over 1 million units, which is about ten times hotter than the fiercely hot habanero. Can you imagine the heat?

💡 Important tip:

Add chilli to soups, salads, as well as stewed or roasted vegetables, rice, marinades and sauces. It’s not only incredibly tasty, but also very healthy. Just make sure you check the ingredients and opt for natural blends without chemical additives or salt. And without that crazy chilli, of course)) Though I won’t insist – that’s just a matter of personal taste. But what I’ll never tire of repeating is that everything should be done in moderation. This is very important, so never forget it.
