Caraway

🌿 Caraway – small but mighty 🌿

I started working when I was 13 – or rather, doing odd jobs. My mum and I – and later my friend Kira joined us too – worked the night shifts at the bakery, keeping an eye on the rye bread as it baked. The bread was gorgeous and fragrant; we could eat it by the bucketful straight from the oven, piping hot. So, we’d sprinkle it with caraway, and to this day, the aroma of this fragrant spice instantly reminds me of those distant, glorious times.

So, on that optimistic note, let’s try to figure out today why it’s so important to include this wonderful spice in your daily diet:

  • cumin stimulates the digestive system and helps relieve bloating;
  • it provides excellent support for the cardiovascular system;
  • thanks to the high content of essential oils, it boosts our immunity and alleviates cold symptoms;
  • it helps regulate metabolism;
  • it normalises cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

🍽️ Cumin can be used:

  • As a topping for bread, but it can also be added to other types of baked goods;
  • In home-made preserves and sauerkraut;
  • In stewed or roasted vegetables, and in meat dishes;
  • It works well in salads and especially with certain types of cheese;
  • In herbal infusions and some types of mulled wine.

Try adding a pinch of cumin to your tea – it’ll give the drink a bit of a kick. You could also chew a few seeds after a meal – it’s a bit of a challenge, of course, but it’s worth it – these little wonders will freshen your breath and help settle your stomach at the same time. But remember to use them in moderation; that’s very important!

✨ Cumin is a distinctive, spicy herb that adds unique, unmistakable notes to both dishes and drinks. Include this potent, aromatic wonder-spice in your daily diet and enjoy not only the unique flavour but also the incredible health benefits of dishes seasoned with this vibrant, aromatic superfood.
